Construction of a highspeed passenger rail line from Beijing to Shenyang, 

Liaoning province, started on Feb 28 after four rounds of environmental 

assessments, Beijing Times reported on Friday. 

The 709km line starts at Xinghuo railway station in Beijing and connects 

Chengde in Hebei province with Chaoyang and Fuxing in Liaoning province 

before reaching Shenyang. 

Upon its completion, expected in 2019, the new line will shorten the current 

six hours travel time to only 2.5 hours.
